Trang An (Ninh Binh)

I was abruptly woken up at 5 am. Something was screaming, playing loud music, and in general it sounded like somebody mixed the sounds of muzzein calling to pray, some bad DJ that was mixing anything but music, etc.

I got dressed, went down, started my motorbike and wanted to see who launched that mad party. I found it after less than a minute. It was a governmental building, blasting all his power from the speakers.

And my luck brought me to the place located less than 30 meters from that vietnamese broadcaster.

Later I learned, that it is a custom in rural Vietnam, the propaganda that locals have the pleasure of listening to everyday, at least twice a day.

If I was to guess what they are telling, it would be the following:

“DEAR WORKING CLASS, IT IS ALREADY 5AM, SO WAKE UP AND WORK TO THE GLORY OF YOUR FABULOUS HOMELAND (Dj starts mixing various sounds).

TODAY IS THE DAY WHEN YOUR WONDERFUL COUNTRY IS ADVANCING YET MORE, THANKS TO YOU WHO COLLECT THE RICE FROM THE FIELDS AND REPAIR MOTORBIKES (yet more scratching from Dj).”

It stopped some 40 minutes later, just to repeat at 11 am.

Still managed to get some sleep.

It was time to hit the road. Weather was nice, not a drop of rain of even cloud in sight. Perfect day for some sightseeing.

Started off with riding to what some bloggers called “the viewpoint”.

It was nothing more than a mud road, leading to nowhere. This is where I fell off the bike, and nearly fell into the pond. The mud was slippery as ice, so I decided to back off.

Next stop Thung Nham Bird Park.

It took over 30 minutes to get there. Cost of entrance and parking of motorbike was 110,000 VND (5 USD).

The park itself was good, but even better was crossing the rainforest.

Here I’m leaving you for few minutes

And something that truly delighted me, the calming sounds of rainforest:

Properly hungry after few hours of intense march, decided to find a place to eat.

Since at the roadside there were some lovely animals crossing:

It was time for:

And yes, the goat was delicious. It is also a local delicacy, so I recommend to try it once you are in this area!

I have decided that two days of waking up at 5 am is enough. Wanted to stay in the area (cheap&beautiful), so looked at another option at booking (all of them, including previous one, were rated more than 9/10). I don’t wanna know how are the properties that have 6 or 7/10.
