Same day I came back from Alvarado, I had a flight to Cartagena. Flying with Viva Colombia is interesting. On their website the initial price is usually low, but then you have to go through shitloads of options, some of them even my colombian host didn’t understand.
Got to Transmillenio – a bus with its own lane so it doesn’t get stuck in traffic (for the first time in Bogota I travelled by other mean than taxi) and.. In the beginning I heard that I can’t buy a single ticket, have to buy a magnetic card (that is non-returnable) and then charge it. So the cost would already be higher than the taxi (since I don’t ever plan on using it again), not to mention the hassle. Fortunately, a seller of sweets offered me his card. I gave him some extra for saving me.
Then at the terminal the line to the bus was as long as for any first-need article in communist country – ie. looked infinite, like a long snake trying to acomodate in tiny space.
Now, I had 2 options.
First was to get back and grab a taxi (but it was 5 pm and heavy rain, so I most probably wouldn’t make it to the airport on time.. Or, second cut into the line.
20 minutes later I was on the bus, and less than an hour later in the airport.
Nothing unusual here except of flight delayed for over 2 hours. In Europe you would get a compensation, but not here. Even more, in Venezuela some years ago I was told a story how the flight was cancelled for 3 days in the row, and people were taking it with full patience, being informed several hours after each occurence. Totally different mentality than in Europe.
When the aircraft was ready, the person at the counter checking the boarding pass was hurrying everyone up. But the bottleneck was in the plane itself, so the boarding took as long as usual.
When arrived, I took Uber to check how it works from the airport.
First, the driver couldn’t find me. Then he went to wrong part of the city, to similar named hotel. Only then he launched the app and got me to the right one. I was stunned by the cost of driving the rather short distance – 34,000 COP while it should be no more than 10,000. I put into the app that driver took unnecessary far route, and was granted 26,000 COP back to be transferred within few weeks. Well done, Uber.
Quickly after check-in unpacked my bag and went to sleep. Next day was the first time in 2 years when I was going to the beach.
