Nha Trang – russian invasion as expected

After the cold evenings in the mountains, I decided to spend a few weeks at the coast.

Nha Trang is known as the Las Vegas of Vietnam (ie. only place with SOME parties except for Hanoi and HCM),

It is also known for being invaded by russians.

After the cold evenings in the mountains, I decided to spend a few weeks at the coast.

Nha Trang is known as the Las Vegas of Vietnam (ie. only place with SOME parties except for Hanoi and HCM),

It is also known for being invaded by russians.

Let me give you an example.

Another one?

The major dance club is called Zima (winter in russian).

While being there, I wasn’t surprised that majority was white. Few I spoke to, were all russians.

The story behind that invasion is following:

since Vietnam and Russia (former Soviet Union) were for long time socialist republics (Vietnam remains until today), they had intense trade exchange. With trade comes the flow of people. And since Nha Trang has a very pleasant climate, is located on the coast with beautiful beaches, this is the melting pot for russians.

I heard that those from eastern parts of Russia can spend a week in Nha Trang for as little as 500 USD. Including flight ticket, room and all meals.

Another factor is that the great majority of those russians don’t speak a word of english (exactly the same as vietnamese). The solution?

Vietnamese learnt russian! They don’t almost any english there, but russian, yes. As an example, I was in restaurant and wanted to know how many shrimps are actually in the soup. Manager didn’t understand english, but I tried my broken russian, and got instant answer – wasmoj (eight).

Russians in my hotel had a similar story. With one of them I spoke through google translate. He was ecstatic that speaking to his phone he got immediate translation into polish.

Overall, the place was beautiful (but beach was better in Da Nang http://www.arturaroundtheworld.com/da-nang-party/ , prices were moderate, and there was SOME nightlife.

Also, it was the first place in whole Vietnam (coming from the north) that had some outdoor workout places. I loved the fact that I was able to train again, next to the seaside!

As a bonus, have a look at some unusual parking spot.
